COAD Scholarships
George D. McClure, III Memorial Scholarship
Program Overview
High school seniors, who are the children of Correctional Officers Association of Delaware members, may be eligible for one of five, $1,000, achievement based scholarships.
Application Deadline: A complete application must be received on or before 5p.m. on Tuesday April 2, 2024. Applications will not be considered if received after this date.
Award Date: Scholarships will be determined by the Scholarship Committee and applicants will be notified by mail by April 16, 2024. Awards will be distributed at the Scholarship Banquet in May. Each award recipient will be able to invite family, friends, and teachers to attend the ceremony.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be:
(1) Current high school seniors during the 2023 -2024 academic year attending either public or private school in the United States.
(2) The natural child, legally adopted child, or any child in the legal custody or guardianship of a current full share COAD member who has paid full share union dues continuously for a minimum of one year. The one-year membership requirement must be satisfied by April 2, 2024.
(3) Anticipating completion of a high school diploma at the time of application.
(4) Accepted into a U.S. accredited public or private college or university at the time of the award and planning to enroll in Fall 2024 as a full-time, degree seeking freshman. Awards must be used for the 2024 - 2025 school year.

It is the applicant's responsibility to allow for sufficient mailing time for a completed application to be received at the COAD business office on or before the April 2, 2024, deadline date. Applications can also be hand delivered to the COAD business office.
Evaluation Criteria
This is a competitive scholarship and applicants are evaluated according to academic ability, honors, school activities, leadership positions, community activities and employment.
